Description
Excursion Inlet is a small, remote settlement about 40 miles from Juneau and 15 miles east of Gustavus. Only about 10 people live there year around, but with a fish processing facility, a few small lodges, and a thriving summer population, you will never run out of things to do. The fishing is outstanding, even in the protected waters of the inlet. Halibut fishing around Porpoise and Pleasant Islands is productive. People tend to keep to themselves but are there for you when needed. Both moose and deer are in the area, as are black and brown bear and the occasional wolf. In the winter, the area is serviced by float plane, and there’s a gravel strip runway utilized in summer which is just being resurfaced and graded this summer. There is currently one barge each spring, but the area is serviced by smaller, independent carriers as needed.
